Prayer is the souls sincere desire, uttered or unexpressed. The motion of a hidden fire that trembles in the breast. Prayer is the burden of a sigh, the falling of a tear, the upward glancing of an eye when none but God is near...prayer is the sublimest strains that reach the majesty on high.
We have a beautiful sister missionary in the NOM that has taught me so much about prayer --- a souls desire, uttered silently in her breast, a hidden fire, a fallen tear, her prayers reach above to the majesty on high. Whether she is in a choir chair during a missionary fireside, sitting during a zone conference, or sacrament meeting, waiting for a temple session to start or silently praying in the celestial room -- she is turned to and only to her Savior -- nothing distracts her -- she sits quietly with her arms folded and her eyes closed and will remain that way in prayer for long, long minutes with no disturbance. Oh I love seeing it -- I love the reverence -- I love the example of how it should be. I love her. She has taught me that these moments are precious -- it is a holy time for her -- she feels her Savior and our Father -- she prays in the name of the Son and by the power of the Holy Ghost. She is an example of prayer and seeks with all her heart.
In a conference talk Carol F. McConkie taught this:
Jesus Christ taught with a parable and "that men should always pray and not faint". He told of a judge who did not honor God and did not have any regard for mankind. Repeatedly, a widow came before him, pleading to be avenged of her adversary. For a while, the judge would offer her no relief. But as a result of her faithful, consistent pleading the judge finally thought. "Because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me." Then Jesus explained. "Shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily." And then the Lord asks this question. "Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:1-8)
Sister Jordan prays in faith - she has taught me the example of personal communion with her Savior. She isn't disturbed by any of her surroundings but is praying in faith and becoming one with the Father and the Son. She is a sister of great faith and an amazing missionary and I love her.
